APULIA AND GARGANO HIGHTLIGHTS 2008 ![]() If you have already toured the northern part of Italy and are looking for something equally fascinating, completely different and much less crowded, Apulia is a wonderful region to consider. Puglia, or Apulia as it is called in English, is Italy’s boot heel, its southeastern most region overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The Valle D’Itria, located between the towns of Putignano and Martina Franca in the southern region of Apulia, is the home of the “trulli”, strange looking white round buildings with conical roofs that are found nowhere else in the world. They are as much a part of this striking landscape as the rolling red earth, olive groves, vineyards and dramatic blue sky. To the north of Apulia, the Gargano promontory is really a different world. The Gargano promontory rises like an island from the flat plains of the Tavoliere, geographically and culturally different from the rest of Puglia. If you like hilltowns and coastal villages, baroque architecture and meeting locals you’ll find much to appreciate about this more relaxed region of Italy. Option 1 Our base will be Vieste, the most important town of this area, in a farmhouse or resort center setting. TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:
Option 2 Our base will be Agriturismo Montepaolo, a 16th century farmhouse and country estate near the town of Conversano and five miles from the Adratic Sea. TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:
